Canakkale, Lapseki, Dalyan Area 1

Turkey: Canakkale, Lapseki, Dalyan Area 1

Forced by Covid 19, we are exploring all around the little town of Lapseki situated in the province of Canakkale, right opposite the Gallipoli area that is the termination of the European side and start of the Asian side of Turkey. We mean by “opposite” that it is situated on one side of a strait called Dardanos, overlooking the district of Gallipoli.

The Dalyan area of Lapseki is about a kilometer to it alongside the strait of the Marmara Sea flowing to the beautiful Aegean Sea. Denizens walk two promenades, situated on both sides of the motorway crossing the town in the middle, or take a taxi or minibus to get to the Dalyan area. The walkway also passes by a fishing port but it seems to be crowded with some state construction activities for the time being (February, 2021). One other good way is a bit secret. You should walk from an alley toward the south and go almost outside the town. You will find a beautiful pathway on the hills connecting Lapseki and Dalyan. Amazing view of the Dardanos Strait and magnificent bridge connecting Europe and Asia, a picnic in some of the clearings across the path, watching the landscape and ships and other vessels plying across the strait or travelling lengthwise, may offer a good life experience for a day. Some residents like to watch cruise ships passing by and dream about being in them.

Dalyan welcomes you with a little park and then a restaurant of a so-called hotel that started about forty years ago and has never finished since then. Opposite the restaurant and in front of the part, there were beautiful geese consisting of about thirty members that people usually say they wish that they are protected against hunting etc. Nowadays, they seem to have disappeared and a few of them are found here and there around the fishing port but a, probable, accident that brought those migrating beauties may keep them a bit more there. We also saw starks, pelicans, etc. there as Dalyan was a wetland forty years ago.

Following the restaurant, you will find five beaches but none of them is so wildly populated and you can enjoy restaurants, beach clubs, live music etc.
