Turkey: Canakkale, Lapseki, Dalyan Area 2
The center of Lapseki was extremely crowded, as in anywhere in the Turkey, at nights with lots of people going out for fun and socializing. There were lots of places to have physical chat and enjoy evenings and nights, sometimes until the morning by the seaside.
There was a walkway along the seaside of the town, dotted by coffees, restaurants, and street traders, with people going out every night and socialize. Presently, the walkway is larger and longer but the number of people socializing are much fewer, probably because there are other areas to socialize in our digitalized world.
The walkway has now been extended to the Dalyan Area, which can be accessed after about a kilometer walk.
The Dalyan Area of Lapseki has been used for swimming and entertainment for about fifty years.
Fifty years ago, it was a bushy area with a few houses at the entrance of it as well as two windmills, which are still present, one being used as a café and the other is idle with its remains still found without a roof.
In fact, dalyan means a specific sort of fishing mechanism, which gave the area its name. It is a range of posts aligned outward on the sea with fishnets in between. It was there until 2020 but now it is removed. I asked to the owner, who is a fishmonger at the town center I know of for many years, and learned that there was a problem in its operation. As a new beach club was established last year in its territory, the problem is apparent.
Presently, there are five beach clubs and a few restaurants. Please do not hope to eat well at the beach clubs. We gave so many chances to them to have something good to eat, we do not go there anymore, save for a small restaurant by the second windmill. However, we hear the owners of the venues change things and there might be something to eat. Three of the clubs offer alcoholic beverages and live music. The other two are for the public.
There are two small hotels with quite ordinary fees.
The Dalyan Area of Lapseki is worth spending a day.
