Traveling Suggestions -Tips for Traveling Affordably and Comfortably
Many years ago, I happened to pay a day visit to somewhere (I was not writing about the trips then) that I do not even remember in Serbia over a few hours of train trip from Belgrade. When I was there, I probably thought the town was explorable and decided to stay there. To my bad luck, there was a trade fair in the town and the hotel prices had skyrocketed. Another time in Zagreb, Croatia, on obligation to find a hotel late in the evening would cost a fortune. Another time in Casablanca, Morocco, the receptionist of a hotel nearby the airport would welcome me with smirking eyes as it was the only option at that time.
There are other times for travelers to find affordable hotels in big cities but they are always from the bad times of humanity and oriented to the least fortunate circles of the respective society, offering only a bed and, if you are lucky, a small TV and sink.
When young, it matters a little if you stay in a sleeping bag or a tent by the seaside or a forest, or eat in a Sikh temple, or volunteer staying in dorms with several people or find a corner in a hostel or stay awake at a bus stop or on beach or a bench to save one night from the hotel fee. When you are around middle ages, however, comfort may start to play a more important part and you may look for a spacious and comfortable place. As none of us are very rich, the location we want to visit may turn out to be somewhere we miss.
If you wish to avoid the above traps and travel for travelling purposes steadily and affordably, one thing we recommend: change your style in the following way.
Do not be absent-minded and strategize your trip- do not go with the flow this time.
Tours could be of a help as they offer win-win services for any party involved. There are reasons for it.
1- Travel agencies are contracted with hotels and your stay could be preliminarily booked. The money that you would pay for the above inconveniences could turn out to be a nice stay in a five-star hotel, which may even include flights.
2- Early booking always pays. Try to plan your trip as early as possible and book it beforehand. There are hotels applying huge discounts if/when they are booked earlier. In today’s world, just Google one.
3- Use options like “All Inclusive,” “Breakfast Included” etc. This may save you lots of good valuable money as hotels may offer lots of things for free. For example, if you consume alcohol and stay in the places specified above, alcohol may be extremely expensive in some locations, adding more burden to your budget. However, tours are usually contracted with hotels that endeavor to optimize their procurement process to a great extent-we know this from our businesses (we are not in a tour or hotel business, nor are we an affiliate of Google). Hotels may be purchasing the raw materials for food at much cheaper prices than the ones you would find at restaurants in an unplanned stay as they purchase them in bulk. They might also be exempt from heavy tax burdens of alcohol, which might be up to 85 percent, imposed on people, offering your food & beverage as well as staying at much affordable prices.
